Trapezium, 96E, Modern Barnhouse, Wiltshire, UK
The county of Wiltshire in southwest England, is known for its chalk hills, rural character, and, of course, the stone circles of Stonehenge and Avebury. Here, a modern barn house is fitted with unique louvers.
During the renovation, the homeowner faced a challenge: how can we reduce solar gain in the bedroom while maintaining the breathtaking panorama of the Wiltshire landscape?
The large window in the master bedroom lets in a wonderful amount of light. On hot days, this brought in a lot of heat. The window shape runs from trapezoidal at the left to rectangular on the right. Not an everyday shape.
To achieve the right balance between comfort and design, the client approached SUNSHIELD UK for a bespoke sunshade. The objectives were to complement the rustic character of the barn house and, above all, an effective solution against solar gain.
The colleagues in England recommended a 96E aluminium louver system. This is a sleek and versatile option with excellent sun protection properties. Thanks to the generous 9-centimeter spacing between the blades, this system also offers significant visual transparency.
A slat system often blends in with the window recess. Because this window is not very deep, side profiles were added. These primarily prevent light from entering from the side. Furthermore, these profiles provide a sleek, clean finish to the louver system.
The result is a stylish and functional sun protection system that perfectly complements the architectural style of the barn. The 96-E louvers significantly reduced solar gain in the bedroom, maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature throughout the day.
The client is satisfied and amazed that such a technically effective solution aesthetically complements the country house so beautifully. And to top it all off, the view of the countryside has been preserved. Exactly what they had in mind.
